February Newsletter

I’m so sorry how late this February Newsletter is! February is a short month, but it was packed with many exciting events from Pathfinder Club events in Anchorage to revival meetings in Dillingham!

One of the most exciting events was a pathfinder club weekend in Anchorage! Pathfinders is like Boy Scouts with a spiritual side! We do all the same types of badge earning and camping skills but also learn more about God. All winter we had been diligently working on pinewood derby cars. These consisted of carving a chunk of wood into car or creative design, slapping on some wheels, and using gravity to race down a sloped track against many other pathfinders’ creations from around Alaska! We decided to fly our plane into anchorage to save money on plane tickets. It was a fun flight and very beautiful as we soared through the snowy mountain passes! The kids had a great weekend and our small club of 5 kids won half the prizes! We were very proud of them! We also were blessed to have Stan Hudson, a creation scientist teach us more about how the Biblical account of creation is more science based than evolution. After a fun weekend, we were able to complete some tire changes on the plane and make the 3 hour flight back into Dillingham. Unfortunately, we had a flat tire upon landing in Dillingham but praise the Lord that it happened at the end of the landing rollout and no one was injured.

One of the exciting events this month was Beaver Roundup. I believe that this local holiday goes back to the fur-trading days. However in modern times, there are no beaver furs at the events. It was a lot of fun though, complete with a parade, basketball games, various events, and an amazing fireworks show! Finally at the end of the month we had annual revival meetings in Dillingham. We had some amazing speakers from Anchorage and the lower 48 fly in. I had the privilege of taking one of the guests on a quick sight-seeing flight around Dillingham! On Saturday morning we made a series of 3 flights to bring people in from a neighboring village for the meetings. I had a lot of fun carefully calculating weights and fuel and making sure each flight would be within safe margins. Our flying really came in handy and it was awesome to bring people to church in a plane!

I have one final update that you should know about. Due to some serious safety concerns I have with our operations and aircraft maintenance, I’ve made the difficult decision to separate myself from the aviation branch of our ministry. I will continue to serve until May primarily in helping out at the local church school, and assisting the church with other Dillingham based ministry projects. Your donations will continue to be utilized to help with ministry expenses in Dillingham. Thanks for your support and prayers! I am still planning to be a full time mission pilot someday. God is miraculously opening doors for me to attend Pacific Union College in California and obtain higher flight licenses and a degree next year! Please continue to pray that God would give me guidance and wisdom as I move forward! Thanks again for partnering with me to spread the gospel in Alaska!

In service together,

Micah
