Updates: Exam Pass and Mission Training
October was a quick month, full of exciting events moving me closer to launching as a student missionary pilot. First and foremost, thank you to those who prayed for my FAA Written Exam. I passed with an 87% (70% is the minimum). The exam was tough, but not quite as bad as I'd imagined. Also this month, I passed the pre-solo written, a less strenuous, open book exam, proving that I possess the necessary knowledge for solo flight. With these two written tests out of the way, I can focus on completing flight hours. Thankfully, I won't have to worry about any more tests, except for the FAA Checkride (the final exam testing my skills both orally and practically).
During the middle of October, I had the opportunity to participate in cross-cultural mission training with Reach the World Next Door, in Houston, Texas. I learned how to connect with refugees and people of different cultures. We discussed different scenarios of how we, as normal people, could make lasting friendships with others. On Tuesday, Thursday, Sabbath, and Sunday, we had the opportunity to do outreach in different communities. We visited and ministered to Buddhists from Cambodia and Laos, Muslim refugees from Afghanistan, and Chinese immigrants. Overall it was a positive experience, and opened my eyes to ways we can reach out to unreached people groups within the U.S.
Our runway extension is coming right along. Yesterday, the mission aviation guys and I, used tractors to rip out some garden beds that are in our way. There are 17 beds on the abandoned farm, the issue being that the landscaping fabric was never removed. However, all the fabric must be removed before the excavating company will begin work on our airstrip. We used a harrow, which is basically a farm implement with a lot of hooks, behind our tractors. This attachment would grab the landscaping fabric and rip it out. With so many beds to remove, this project will take lots of time, but it will be worth it when we take the first flight from our extended runway.
Thank you for your prayers and support this month. Please continue to pray for our program and the senior mission track students who are preparing to launch this coming year. As always, please feel free to share anyway that we could lift you up in prayer. Have a happy Thanksgiving!
In service together,
Micah
Prayer Requests:
That our routine maintenance on our Cessna 172 goes smoothly.
For a second flight instructor.
For the unreached people of the world, who are waiting for someone to bring them the gospel.
For more people to join our mission of reaching the unreached through aviation.
