Updates: FAA Written and Emergency Procedures
Hey friends!
I just wanted to check in and share what God has been doing. I've been very busy with school, but am excited to give you an update. Senior year has its ups and downs, but God is faithful through it all.
Flight training has been moving right along. I've flown several hours this year and am preparing for solo. Lately, we've been practicing landings, takeoffs, and emergency protocols. Emergencies are exciting and exhausting all at once! Although practicing fires, engine-out approaches, and other in-flight issues is fun, I have to memorize most of the emergency checklists for our Cessna 172. Despite the time sacrificed to memorize those checklists, it will be well worth it if/when that information saves my life someday.
The other large goal we are working on is completing the FAA Written Exam. This is one of the several aviation tests required to complete a Private Pilot's License. The test consists of 60 questions on weight and balance, aviation weather, different altitudes, time en route, VOR navigation, aircraft systems, Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), and many other aviation rules. For those of you not familiar with aviation, this would compare to a written driver's license test, just much longer and more difficult. I am studying hard, and am hoping to pass the exam on October 10. If you receive this newsletter before that date, please keep me in your prayers!
As I was writing to you about the emergency checklists, a spiritual lesson came to mind. In aviation, I study and memorize the emergency checklists like my life depends on it. Actually, my life may very likely depend on it someday. If I am confronted with an emergency, my training will instinctively kick in, giving me the best chance for survival. In the same way, as Christians, we know we will face troubles and temptations throughout our lives. Just as I prepare for emergencies, we can prepare for hard times. The more time we spend connecting with Christ, the easier it will be for us to trust Him instinctively when times get tough. Will you join me in continuing to develop a better relationship with Christ?
I'd like to offer a big thank-you for supporting and praying for me. Your support ministry makes my ministry possible. Please pray for me as I attend a week-long, cross-cultural mission training event, this month. I will travel with my team to Houston, Texas to train with Reach the World Next Door. Please remember to feel free to share any way I could pray for you.
In Service Together,
Micah
